"Best treatment I've had in a hospital," says Medical City Las Colinas ER patient
Edward Best’s mornings normally begin with a walk, but the morning of October 12 was very different. “I woke up in the worst pain I have ever felt. I was scared and nervous.”
When Best arrived at the Medical City Las Colinas emergency room with severe abdominal pain, the concern and attentiveness of the highly skilled care team immediately put him at ease.
“I walked in, straight to the window. The RN, she took me right back.”
While a nurse began taking an initial assessment, emergency room doctor Stefan Meyering, DO asked Best to describe his symptoms and then ordered a CT scan, also prescribing medication to help alleviate Best’s pain.
The scan confirmed Best had a hernia and small bowel obstruction that required emergency surgery. Doctors performed a laparoscopic hernia repair and removed the obstruction. A few hours later, Best was recovering and under the careful watch of the nursing team. He was discharged three days later.
“I’ve had the best treatment I’ve had in a hospital. Everything has been outstanding. Everyone was very professional and genuinely friendly.”
Best worked in healthcare for more than 40 years, retiring in January 2025 after more than 25 years as a respiratory care director. With decades of experience, he expects a certain level of service and says the staff and systems of care exceeded every expectation, “Very professional. Everyone is 100%. Even with all the stars, give yourselves two more.”
