Emergency care

Emergency care is the treatment of unexpected, severe medical injuries or infections. It is typically delivered in an emergency room or an ambulance. Our emergency medicine physicians stabilize your condition as quickly as possible to prepare you for the next step of care or discharge.

Medical City Heart Hospital works closely with EMS professionals to activate a rapid response for patients showing signs of a STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) — a serious type of heart attack caused by a complete blockage. Upon arrival, these patients bypass the ER and are taken straight to our cardiac catheterization lab, often within 60 minutes or less, well under the national average.

Doctors at the hospital also specialize in advanced cardiac support, including care for patients with heart failure and left ventricular assist devices.

Recognizing early warning signs of a heart attack

Heart attacks often begin subtly, with mild discomfort instead of sudden, intense pain. Knowing the symptoms can save your life — or the life of someone you love.

Common heart attack symptoms include:

  • Persistent or intermittent chest discomfort, described as pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain
  • Pain or discomfort in the arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach
  • Shortness of breath, with or without chest discomfort
  • Cold sweats, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or lightheadedness
  • Symptoms that feel like heartburn or indigestion

If you experience these symptoms, call 911 immediately.

Accredited Chest Pain Center

Medical City Heart Hospital is proud to be an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology. This designation reflects our commitment to fast, effective care and improved outcomes for patients experiencing chest pain and cardiac emergencies.
