Hospital history

We opened in 1974 as Decatur Community Hospital, and became Wise Health System in 2001. In 2023, we joined Medical City Healthcare and rebranded as Medical City Decatur, a campus of Medical City Denton.

Following several expansions throughout our history, Wise Health System remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering exceptional care to our community. This commitment is exemplified by our decision to become part of Medical City Healthcare, a division of HCA Healthcare.

A start of something special

The Decatur Hospital Authority was created and established by ordinance of the City of Decatur in October of 1967.

In 1974, the hospital opened its doors as Decatur Community Hospital, enhancing community health care delivery and addressing the future health care requirements of a growing community.

When the doors first opened for business, the hospital occupied little more than 34,000 square feet and was home to 50 patient beds and 2 operating rooms. There was significant forethought and effort by community leaders which led to the creation of this modern facility designed to meet virtually all health care needs, either on an emergency or routine basis. Decatur Community Hospital officially changed its name to Wise Health System in April of 2001.
