Help for people returning to work due to severe depression, stress, and anxiety.

Dr. Jared Pickens, an economics professor at the University of North Texas, missed in-person teaching and engaging with students and colleagues. When pandemic restrictions were lifted and he returned to the classroom, he was concerned to find that things weren’t back to “normal.” As his anxiety increased, his job satisfaction decreased. Through the WorkReturns outpatient program at Medical City Green Oaks — a one-of-its-kind program in North Texas — Dr. Pickens found the tools, confidence and coping strategies to help him enjoy teaching again.

Partial hospitalization program

The partial hospitalization program is designed for patients 18 years old and older with a mental illness and/or chemical dependency diagnosis who need intensive treatment, but do not meet criteria for inpatient psychiatric care at mental health hospitals.

Throughout this program, patients are monitored by a team of doctors, nurses and psychiatrists while undergoing treatment. The program meets in a private location, Monday through Friday, from 9am - 3pm and lunch is provided daily.

For more information or to schedule a behavioral health assessment, please call (972) 770-0818.

Electroconvulsive therapy

For patients who are unresponsive to traditional therapy and medication management, Medical City Green Oaks offers inpatient and outpatient electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) services, which has been proven as a safe and effective form of treatment for people with certain mental illnesses. For example, ECT is a treatment for severe, medication-resistant depression.

Before considering ECT, a full evaluation is required to ensure ECT is safe for the patient. This evaluation usually includes:

  • A medical history
  • A full physical exam
  • A psychiatric assessment
  • Basic blood tests
  • An electrocardiogram (ECG) and chest X-ray to check heart and lung health
  • Anesthesiologist review

ECT is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

To learn more about ECT, make a referral or schedule an appointment, please call (972) 770-0824. Your call will be returned within 24 hours.

Outpatient drug and alcohol treatment

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) for chemical dependency is a comprehensive drug and alcohol addiction treatment program that provides assistance to adults and their families through the early recovery stages of chemical dependency.

Our curriculum is typically eight weeks in length, with each session building on the one before. A patient may enter at any point in the cycle. Family members in the adult’s life are encouraged to attend and participate in meetings and/or family therapy.

Participants must abstain from using alcohol or other mood-altering drugs throughout the course of the program. If a participant is using a prescription medication, they must provide proof that it is valid and current prescription.

Program meeting times and location

We meet three times a week in the evenings, 6:00pm - 9:00am in the Medical City Green Oaks Hospital – Plano Outpatient Clinic. Sessions are an equal mix of group therapy, life skills and education.

Our address is:
