$144 million expansion complete at Medical City Arlington
Arlington, Texas — Medical City Arlington is proud to unveil its $144 million expansion, featuring a new patient tower, four new specialty operating rooms, a modernized main entrance and expanded visitor lobby. This transformative project signifies a new era of excellence in healthcare care for the Arlington, Mansfield and Grand Prairie communities.
In conjunction with the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce, hospital colleagues and local leaders will celebrate the project’s completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and other festivities on August 22 from 2:00pm–4:00pm. The new facilities will open for patients on Aug. 25.
More than 127,000 square feet were added to the Medical City Arlington campus, including space for four new operating rooms and 60 additional beds – increasing the total hospital bed count to 496. The new architecture is a striking blend of modern design and calming elegance. A two-story atrium entry lobby, bathed in natural light, fosters an environment that promotes healing and well-being.
“These enhancements reflect our dedication and investment in our community, a transformative process we began with the launch of our dedicated women’s hospital,” says Sharn Barbarin, CEO of Medical City Arlington. “In this new era, we are delivering even more advanced resources, attracting top physicians and offering leading-edge procedures and specialty care as we set new standards in regional healthcare excellence.”
The new patient tower features several specialty care areas, including additional operating rooms and post-operative recovery units staffed by specially trained caregivers. Other highlights of the expansion include:
- Eight private day surgery rooms
- 12 additional post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays
- Intensive care units for neurology and cardiovascular patients
- Coffee bar and new gift shop conveniently located in the main lobby
- Central energy plant
- Kitchen expansion/renovation
These additions are expected to boost overall surgical capacity by 50%. With nearly 117,000 ER visits projected for 2025, the increased surgical capacity will help ensure seamless care for both scheduled and emergency procedures.
The expansion is part of a broader investment of more than $1.7 billion in capital improvements over five years across Medical City Healthcare. From facility acquisitions, expansions and upgrades to high-quality service enhancements.
