Colleagues at Medical City Plano and Medical City Frisco collectively donated 20,520 meals and $5,000 to a North Texas 501(c)3 charity as part of the hospitals’ summer of service tradition. The hospitals selected Kids Against Hunger as the beneficiary for this community service project.

“We share a common goal with Kids Against Hunger to create healthier tomorrows by eradicating food insecurity and we’re proud to partner with them for our summer of service tradition,” says Damita Williams, EdD, RN, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Medical City Plano. “As servant leaders, we are proud to work for a company that supports our commitment to give back to the communities we serve.”

Members of the hospitals’ leadership teams assembled shelf-stable, nutritious and filling meal packs. The packaged meals will be sent to food-insecure communities across Texas and the world, including food pantries in North Texas.

Working with food scientists, Kids Against Hunger’s meals are specially prepared and packed with protein, carbohydrates and vitamins specifically developed for malnourished individuals. Each meal bag contains six servings of dehydrated food which when boiled will feed six children or adults. These meals are thoughtfully prepared to better serve the diverse ethnic palates and various religious preferences around the world. Kids Fight Hunger’s meal bags are specifically made from moisture-proof and odor-proof material to prevent spoilage and insect or rodent problems, and the meals have a shelf life of at least three years.
