Plano, Texas — In an emotional and heartfelt event, the family of a fallen Greenville police officer expressed their deep gratitude and recognized a Medical City Plano physician for her unwavering dedication and compassionate care.

In a surprise ceremony, Aubrey Dawson, wife of the late Officer Cooper Dawson, returned to Medical City Plano to present a commemorative plaque to Megan Post, MD, the emergency room surgeon who treated her husband following the fatal shooting in November 2024. Ofc. Dawson was airlifted from Hunt County to Medical City Plano, a Level I Trauma Center.

Mrs. Dawson tearfully expressed profound gratitude for the heroic efforts of Dr. Post and the trauma team at Medical City Plano. Ofc. Dawson ultimately succumbed to the life-threating injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Ofc. Dawson’s family, Greenville police, hospital leaders, trauma staff and other colleagues gathered to recognize Dr. Post and the emergency room’s expertise, professionalism and compassion. The plaque recognizes Dr. Post for efforts that “reflect the highest ideals of service and humanity.”

"Today’s recognition is a reminder of the profound and lasting impact that dedicated medical professionals have on the lives of patients and their families,” says Ben Coogan, CEO of Medical City Plano. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Dawson family and the Greenville Police Department and remain devoted to serving those in need with compassion and excellence."
