Medical City Sachse hosts CarFit screening for older drivers
Sachse, TX — Medical City Sachse will join trained CarFit technicians to assess how well drivers over 50 fit their personal vehicles. Technicians will spend approximately 20 minutes and use a 12-point checklist to screen each car and evaluate them for optimal safety and comfort.
As people age, changes in vision, flexibility and strength can subtly affect driving ability. Even minor modifications to a vehicle’s mirrors, seat position and steering wheel can make a significant safety difference. Ensuring that older drivers are comfortably and properly positioned their vehicles enhances confidence behind the wheel and contributes to the overall safety of the community and roadways.
Among the items checked at the CarFit event:
- Correct position of driver’s seat
- Driver’s ability to easily reach pedals
- Proper adjustment of mirrors
“Our dedicated trauma team is proud to offer this resource as part of our commitment to community safety and injury prevention,” says Jinnifir Gauerke, trauma outreach coordinator at Medical City Plano. “CarFit empowers drivers to feel confident and secure by showing how small adjustments can make a big impact.”
The event will take place on Tuesday, June 10 from 9am – 12pm at Medical City Sachse. Call 214-473-7303 to schedule an appointment.
CarFit is a nationally recognized program developed by the American Occupational Therapy Association in collaboration with AAA and AARP. The event aims to help drivers enhance their safety by ensuring that their vehicles are properly adjusted to their individual needs.
