Shoulder surgery restores active lifestyle
When Jerry Farmer, 42, from Waxahachie, dislocated his left shoulder during a ski trip in March 2025, he knew something was seriously wrong.
“I popped it back in place while I was still there and tried to ski, but it kept slipping out,” Farmer recalls.
After returning home and still in pain, he turned to Medical City Arlington, a leader in sports medicine with orthopedic specialists for knee, hip and shoulder surgery.
Expert Diagnosis and Advanced Care
Brandon Levy, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Medical City Arlington specializing in sports and shoulder surgery, reviewed Farmer’s imaging and discovered significant damage: a chipped bone and a torn labrum--which is a ring of cartilage that stabilizes the shoulder joint.
“My goal is always to help patients reduce pain, restore function and get back to leading an active lifestyle,” says Dr. Levy.
About a month after the injury, Dr. Levy performed a left shoulder arthroscopy, a minimally invasive surgery utilizing a small camera to examine and repair the inside of a joint, which restores stability and function. In 2025, Medical City Arlington invested and unveiled a suite of new operating rooms, which includes leading edge technology for orthopedic surgery.
Back to the Activities He Loves
Following surgery and physical therapy, Farmer is now back to enjoying the outdoor activities he loves. “I went out to the deer lease and was lifting 40-pound bags of corn to fill the feeders,” he says. “I have my strength back, but I don’t want to overdo it because I know it takes time to heal completely.”
Farmer credits Dr. Levy and the entire care team at Medical City Arlington for turning a difficult situation into a positive experience. “I was treated as one of their own, like family,” Farmer says. “It was a great experience.”
