In March 2026, Medical City Las Colinas completed updates to its emergency room (ER) waiting area and added improvements designed to support patient flow, comfort and privacy. Yolanda was among the first patients to experience the refreshed space when she arrived at the ER with swelling in her foot, and she says the care team helped put her at ease right away.
“The care has been above and beyond,” says Yolanda. “The nurse attended to me right away, and everyone has been wonderful.”
Soon after she arrived, Yolanda was brought to an exam room. The attending physician and nurses examined her foot and noted an injury to a toe that had caused swelling and bruising. Because Yolanda has diabetes, the care team closely monitored her for signs of cellulitis, a bacterial skin infection that can start when germs enter through a break in the skin. Diabetes can affect circulation and the body’s ability to fight infection, which can increase the risk of complications from even small wounds.
Due to the severity of the case, she was admitted a short time later, but she says the compassionate care never faltered. Her wound was cleaned and treated to help prevent infection, and she was prescribed antibiotics.
“The doctors are very patient and explain everything in terms you understand. They did not leave my room until all my questions were answered,” says Yolanda.
The emergency room updates include a renovated reception and registration desk that gives the attending nurse a clearer view of walk-in patients, supporting an initial assessment before the patient is escorted into an exam space. The refreshed waiting area also features larger, more comfortable chairs, along with end tables that include electrical outlets and charging ports for electronic devices.
Also new to the emergency room is Fast Track, a four-station area separate from the main treatment rooms. It’s designed for time-sensitive, non-critical emergencies, offering efficient, private care while maintaining access to hospital-level resources. Unlike urgent care, Fast Track helps patients reach the appropriate level of care more quickly.
“Every detail of this space matters when someone is worried, in pain or looking for answers,” says Christina Mathis, CEO Medical City Las Colinas. “The improvements to our emergency room help us deliver care with greater speed, privacy and compassion, and strengthen the way patients experience our system of care from arrival to discharge.”
Together, these updates reflect a focus on creating a more connected, consistent experience that helps make Medical City Las Colinas the destination of choice.
