Inpatient rehabilitation

Our 15-bed inpatient rehab center provides a full spectrum of services. For six days a week, you spend three or more hours with our experienced physical, occupational or speech therapists. You can also include your family members in the education process so they can better support you after you transition home.

Our facility uses simulated real-life environments where you practice daily activities, such as navigating the kitchen and getting in and out of a car. These activities help you relearn skills you need in your everyday life.

Group settings are encouraged to help you re-engage with others and create a more enjoyable stay. Weekday, evening and weekend activities range from community dining, cooking sessions, exercise programs and enjoying games with other patients.

Our comprehensive care includes:

  • Case management
  • Clinical nutrition
  • Medical management
  • Neuropsychological services
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Rehabilitation nursing
  • Respiratory care
  • Speech therapy

Admission criteria

Our assessment coordinator can provide on-site evaluations either in the hospital or at your place of residence. Anyone may refer you if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • Absence of medical challenges that may prohibit therapy
  • Ability to identify and understand treatment goal
  • Potential to benefit from an intensive rehab program

Specialized treatments

Our therapy department staff has more than 65 years of combined experience. The team includes physical therapists, an occupational therapist and a certified occupational therapy assistant.

All of our nurses also are specialized in rehabilitation nursing. This specialization means they are trained in the use of adaptive equipment, as well as compensatory techniques to improve self-care activities, mobility and cognition.

Our therapists hold several specialized certifications that demonstrate their expertise. We are experienced in techniques that focus on pathophysiology of the central nervous system (CNS), Parkinson's disease, other neurological conditions, as well as wound care.

Discharge planning

Once you have completed your rehab stay, you are evaluated for the need for follow-up services. A coordinated care plan for life after discharge is developed and services are identified to help patients maintain and improve their health. Rehabilitation therapy may be continued on a home health or outpatient basis.

In addition to services in our main hospital, you can also receive therapies at our west campus location, Medical City Decatur Inpatient Rehabilitation.
