He has led the 150-bed rural hospital since 2017, guiding its 2023 acquisition by Medical City Healthcare and a strong financial recovery in 2025 following significant fiscal challenges, with employee retention increasing by 57%.
Under his leadership, the hospital introduced Wise County’s first atrial fibrillation ablation in 2025, expanded orthopedic spine services and completed a $400,000 emergency department renovation to modernize care. Medical City Decatur earned the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain — MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2025 — placing it among just 323 hospitals nationwide — and received the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus award in 2024.
Wren is an active member of the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals, serves as president of the City of Decatur’s economic development corporation board, co-founded Acts 4 Others, a nonprofit addressing homelessness, and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
