National recognition for cardiac treatment at Medical City Decatur
Medical City Decatur has earned the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2025, placing it among only 323 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.
The award recognizes Medical City Decatur’s success and commitment to delivering a high standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies achievement in meeting rigorous clinical standards outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association.
To receive the Platinum Performance Achievement Award, Medical City Decatur has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry for three consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024) and met the specific performance measures. Full participation in the registry requires hospitals to engage in a robust quality process using data to drive results that align with guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.
“This national recognition reflects the unwavering dedication of our expert physicians, nurses and staff to providing exceptional cardiac care,” says Jason Wren, Medical City Decatur CEO. “This adds to the many reasons Medical City Decatur is the destination of choice for healthcare excellence in Wise County.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that over 800,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. Treatment guidelines include administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, timely restoration of blood flow to the blocked artery, smoking cessation counseling and cardiac rehabilitation, among others.
“It is an honor to award Medical City Decatur with the Platinum Performance Award for their valuable national leadership and dedication to meeting comprehensive performance measures in patient care,” says Michael C. Kontos, MD, FACC, chair of the NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry steering subcommittee. “The receipt of this award indicates that Medical City Decatur remains committed to providing top quality, guideline-driven care for heart attack patients. Their success ensures patients are receiving high-quality cardiovascular care.”
