Medical City Decatur and Local Leaders to with "Heart Safe Community" Recognition award

Medical City Decatur led efforts with community first responders to help the City of Decatur earn an official designation as a Heart Safe Community, a prestigious honor from the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council (NCTTRAC). The recognition highlights the hospital and community’s exceptional efforts to reduce the impact of heart disease and improve outcomes in cardiac emergencies.

Decatur Mayor Mike McQuiston commended Medical City Decatur for its leadership and dedication to the health and safety of the community’s residents during the city council meeting on Nov. 25. Decatur is one of eleven North Texas cities to earn the Heart Save Community designation, which includes Medical City Weatherford.

“This designation reflects the outstanding teamwork and commitment of our staff, emergency responders and community partners,” says Medical City Decatur CEO Jason Wren. “Becoming a Heart Safe Community demonstrates our ongoing mission to provide superior care in Wise County and the surrounding communities.”

The Heart Safe Community program requires meeting rigorous criteria in six key areas:

  • Access to emergency care
  • Emergency medical dispatch
  • AED access
  • Advanced life support (ALS)
  • Education, community awareness and activities to reduce cardiac events
  • Data collection and review

To earn this designation, Medical City Decatur provided comprehensive evidence of its work across these categories, showcasing innovative programs, community partnerships and lifesaving strategies. NCTTRAC evaluated and endorsed the application, further solidifying the hospital’s role as a leader in cardiac health.

“The Heart Safe Community recognition for the City of Decatur is a significant step in reducing the impact of heart disease and sudden cardiac arrest,” says Medical City Decatur Clinical Support Coordinator Casey Rauschuber, RN. “Partnering with local agencies to meet the necessary requirements demonstrates how we are all working together to prioritize the safety and well-being of our citizens. It has been an honor to collaborate on this important project with Wise County EMS, fire and Decatur police department.”
